One month before their second son was born, healthcare personnel James and Mavis
Leong discovered that the baby had a rare structural birth defect, and might
have
to stay in the intensive care unit for months. The news threw them into a tailspin.
 |
|
The day our hearts sank
It was just a routine visit to the gynaecologist – or so we thought. But
the check-up turned out longer than expected. We sensed that something was amiss.
The ultrasound showed that our second son Damien had a proportionately smaller
body and there was too much fluid in the womb. It was the start of many tests
and checks.
The diagnosis: esophageal atresia, a gap between the mouth
and stomach. It was a very rare and serious structural
defect. So rare, in fact, he became a discussion case at
KK Hospital. The doctor said that there was only one such
case in Singapore every few years. |
The defect
meant that Damien could not be fed through his mouth. More detailed
scans suggested that the gap might be too big even to be corrected
by surgery. All the doctors said he would be in the Intensive Care
Unit for months, and that we would have to feed our baby through
a pouch attached to an opening in his stomach. Moreover, there might
be defects in his other organs too. We were told to be prepared
for a six-digit medical bill unless we downgraded to a C-class ward.
The news left us bewildered and lost. Like all parents, we had been
looking forward to his birth with joy and anticipation. Now each
day was a constant battle. Our fears and anxieties grew as we were
informed of the possible complications. We kept countering our fears
with
faith, and battling constant doubts. Our pastors, carecell and church
friends rallied around us with concern and prayers.
Two weekends later, when we attended Trinity’s worship service,
we heard a testimony about a Thai boy who was unable to swallow anything
without vomiting. Unable to consume anything by mouth, he had a tube
inserted into his stomach for liquid food. But after Trinity’s
Missions Impact Team prayed for him, he was able to drink a full
bottle through the mouth without throwing up. As we heard the amazing
testimony and saw the actual photos of this boy successfully sucking
from the bottle, we were encouraged. This testimony could not have
been more timely.
But subsequent visits to the gynaecologist did not bear good news.
Our faith was constantly challenged. We clung on tightly to God’s
promise: “Therefore I tell you, whatever you asked for in prayer,
believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark
11:24).
A difficult birth
When I arrived at the hospital to give birth, a panel of specialists
was on hand, waiting to whisk our baby away the moment he was born.
That’s how serious his condition was.
The labour lasted more
than 12 hours. The labour was progressing too slowly, and Damien’s
heart rate frequently dropped. The umbilical cord was also
coiled around his neck. An urgent Caesarean was planned. Knowing the consequences
of a Caesarean delivery, we prayed for a natural birth. God answered
our prayers! Within the next hour Damien was born by normal delivery.
Damien arrived safely, and bigger than expected.
However, the diagnosis was confirmed by the doctors. His esophagus,
the food pipe, was indeed not connected to the stomach. We
were greatly dismayed. After much fasting and prayer, we had not
received our miracle. We were so tempted to give up and leave the matterin the
hands of the experienced doctors. But we clung on to God’s
promises.
The following 24 hours were intense. We were called to meet
up with the surgeons regarding the proposed surgery. Investigations
showed that the gap between the stomach and the esophagus was
big, and may not be repairable by surgery at this point in
time.
More bad news
There was more bad news. This was not the only defect Damien was born with.
In the words of the specialists, “Defects don’t come alone.” They
knew that one defect indicated the presence of other defects, and so they
scanned him from head to toe.
There was also a defect in his lungs – a connection
between the air pipe and the esophagus that should not have
been there. This meant more complications. The surgeons planned
to quickly close the
connection that afternoon by open chest surgery, and to make an opening
into the stomach for feeding, |
|
since they did not foresee a surgical
repair of the gap in the near future. With a heavy heart, we signed
the consent form for the procedure that would create an opening in
the stomach, and attach the pouch to it. Our faith was slipping away
fast. We could only manage another prayer with tears.
Less than 24 hours after his birth, the doctors operated on him.
The surgery took longer than the expected 3 hours, after which we
received an urgent call asking us to proceed to the operating theatre.
It was a tense moment. We braced ourselves for the worst. Had our
baby died during the surgery?
A surprise discovery
But we were in for a surprise. It was good news! The surgeons
were stunned to fi nd that the gap was smaller (only 1.5cm), and
could
be repaired very easily. There was no need to attach a
pouch to the stomach at all. We don’t know what happened,
but it was totally unexpected! We believe it was a miracle of God.
In fact, there was a twist to the whole saga. The other defect (in
the lungs) aided the closing of the gap between the food pipe and
the stomach! The doctors were amazed because what they saw before
their very eyes defied all the established facts of the case. God
had answered our prayers! “Now faith is being sure of what
we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Instead of months, Damien was discharged in less than two
weeks and his medical bill came up to $24,000. It was not a small sum,
but much less than what it could have been, if his stay had been
prolonged. In fact, after the medical subsidy and Medisave, we did
not have to foot any cash. We were completely stunned.
 |
|
A third miracle
Bringing Damien home had its own challenges. Since Damien had not eaten since
birth, he had
“forgotten” how to suck and swallow. He had his first taste of milk
10 days after birth. We had to feed him through a tube that went through the
nose and into the stomach. It was painfully difficult to drip milk through the
tube. It took half an hour for just a small amount of milk to go down.
The therapist told us that Damien might take many
weeks to learn to eat. We asked the doctors how
long we would have to do it, but they could not tell us.
It could be weeks, or even months. After a week of dripping
milk down the tube, we desperately prayed that God would
do something. |
Again, God answered our prayers! In less than two weeks,
Damien could drink and swallow
normally! Damien’s progress was so remarkable that his tube was
removed in less than two weeks. He was feeding well and began to gain weight.
This was the third miracle we experienced, after the natural birth and the closing
of the gap.
That was not all. In the subsequent months, God healed Damien of
a hole in his heart, and also of a wry neck (torticollis). It was
the fulfi lment of God’s promise to us: “Behold, I am
the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” (Jeremiah
32:27)
A source of support
Throughout this ordeal, we received tremendous support and encouragement from
Trinity – our pastors, our carecell and our friends. They prayed
for us when we could not even pray for ourselves. In fact, our carecell
leader would encourage us through phone calls, emails and SMS every other
day. We really cannot imagine what would have happened to us if we
were not part of a carecell. Where else would we get such support
and encouragement to go through this trial?
|
|
In retrospect, God had put all the people in place even before the
crisis happened. When Damien was conceived in October 2005, we had
not yet joined a carecell. We opened our home to host a carecell
in January 2006. By the time we discovered his condition
in June 2006, God had already surrounded us with people who would
pray with
us for our breakthrough. We felt this was God orchestrating behind
the scenes, taking care of us long before we even knew we had a problem.
This crisis has changed our lives. The greatest trial of
our lives also turned out to be the most amazing testimony of our
lives. For
sure, it was truly the most “happening” time of our lives!
God works in wondrous ways. As a couple, we grew closer and bonded
like never before as we weathered this crisis together.
We experienced what it really means to pray in faith. We realised
that faith is not the absence of fear or doubt, but clinging
on to God’s promises in the midst of bad news and crisis.
Throughout the crisis, fear and doubt threatened to overwhelm us,
but we fought
them off with God’s promises. The verses you read in this testimony
are the exact weapons we used in this fight of faith.
Our miracle baby
Today, Damien is a healthy one-year-old. In fact, we just celebrated
his first birthday on 21 July. It was a milestone event that reminded
us all over again of God’s goodness and grace. When you look
at Damien today, you can’t tell that he was ever diagnosed
with a serious and rare birth defect. He is our miracle baby, and
Jesus is our miracle working God!
“May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who
loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good
hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you\ in every good deed
and word” (2 Thessalonians 2:17).

With a life-threatening
condition and the spectre of surgery hovering over their newborn
baby girl, Pastor Dennis Lum & his wife Yun Lin could only pray
for a miracle. |
 |
|
About 2 years ago, my wife conceived for the first time.
As expectant parents, we were just so happy and excited that
we
were going to have a baby. But it was not to be. We lost our
child within the first three months of pregnancy.
Different people came up to me and told me
that this was a fairly common thing that happened to many
couples. But just because it is so common, doesn’t take
away the pain. I tried to console my wife, telling her that
God is sovereign, He loves us, He has a purpose, and that we
just have to put our trust in God.
But
deep inside, I was angry. I was in pain. I came to God in
my anger and pain and asked Him, “God…WHY? Why
did You let this happen? WHY?” I
was frustrated and disappointed. You may think that
all pastors are spiritual giants who never doubt God and
never worry.
But I confess that I am human. I brought my anger
to God. God can take our anger very well – better than
what most of us think He can. He can take our honesty. |
|
The miscarriage
happened while we were on a selfdrive holiday. Just as we were
grappling with this issue, everywhere we went, we saw rainbows.
We took a picture
of every rainbow we saw. I have this whole series of rainbows in
my photo collection! I wondered why the rainbows seemed to be following
us around.
Then God spoke to me. He said, “Do you know that
a rainbow is a sign of my covenant? It is a sign of my covenant with
man. It is a sign that I have a covenant with you. And though you
may
not feel it, I am watching over you. I am following you everywhere
you go. I know the pain that you feel. I know that you are hurt and
angry. I know and I care!” I never got an answer
to my ‘Why?’,
but came and reached down to take away my pain and my anger.
Last year, my wife conceived for a second time. We were very excited
that God had blessed us and given us a baby once again. We covered
the whole pregnancy in prayer. Everything was incredibly smooth.
After 10 hours of labour and a lot of pushing, our little baby
Sophie was born.
Immediately, I realised that something was not right. They placed
her on a table beside us and I saw that she was turning purple.
The doctors and nurses rushed in and there was a flurry of activity.
They put her in an incubator and wheeled her out without
telling us anything. We didn’t know what was happening. Wondering
where they had taken my daughter, I rushed out and found that she
was in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Nothing prepared me for what I saw in the NICU.
I saw my daughter lying there. She wasn’t even cleaned
up; they didn’t even have time to do that. There were
tubes going into her from all sides. She was on a ventilator,
and there was a tube in her mouth to help her to breathe.
We waited almost until midnight for the diagnosis. The X-ray
showed that my daughter’s diaphragm was not functioning
properly. It was pushed all the way up into her chest. Her
lung had not expanded and she couldn’t breathe. Without
the ventilator, she would die. The doctor told me
that she would probably need surgery to correct this problem. |
|
I thought, “She
is barely one day old, and she needs surgery?” I asked for
a second opinion. A specialist looked at the X-ray, looked at my
daughter and came back with the same conclusion. That night, I
didn’t sleep at all. I just cried and cried out to God, not
in anger but in despair.
I took out Psalm 23:6 and declared, “Surely goodness and
love will follow me all the days of my life.” God, You’ve
got to heal my daughter!” I really wanted to be like the
Centurion that came to Jesus and sent his messenger to tell Jesus
to just say the word so that his servant will be healed. I wanted
to have that kind of faith. But in reality, I felt like that man
who carried his son to Jesus and said, “Jesus, if You can,
heal my son. Lord, I believe. Help me overcome my unbelief.” That’s
how I felt.
The pastors prayed, our friends prayed, the family interceded.
There were signs that God’s covenantal love was following
us. The radiologist who did the X-ray was a Trinitarian. When my
daughter had to be transferred to another hospital, the doctor
in the receiving hospital was also a Trinitarian. Like
the rainbows, these were gentle reminders that God was following
us.
As we prayed, my daughter began to breathe. Soon, she could breathe
normally and they could take her off the ventilator. As
we continued to pray, it was as though God was pushing the diaphragm
down. Her
lung expanded a little bit more. We continued to pray and intercede.
Soon she was taken off the feeding tube. All the tubes were taken
off her. The doctor said, “We don’t think she needs the
surgery anymore.”
A week later, they did a third X-ray and the diaphragm was back
in its normal position. The doctor said, “She’s healed,
she is perfectly fine, you can take her home.”
When I got
to carry Sophie for the very first time, the nurse came with a
bottle of milk and asked me if I would like to feed my baby. After
I fed her, Sophie looked up at me and smiled at me for the very
first time. Today, Sophie is a happy and healthy five-month-old.
When I look at my daughter, I can testify that surely goodness
and mercy – God’s covenantal love, God’s unfailing
love – will follow me, pursue me and chase after me, overtake
me, protect me, cover me all the days of my life, and I will dwell
in the house of the Lord forever.

A testimony by Sam Pang
In December last year, Sam and Suzanna Pang started to notice a
little pearl-like “bump” on their daughter Joy’s
cheek. Thinking that it was just a couple of pimples, they were
not worried.
However, within a short span of two months, more little pimples
started to form around her cheek and between her nose and upper
lips.
They consulted a specialist at National Skin Center and Joy’s
condition was diagnosed as molluscum, a skin disease caused by a
virus. The clusters of tiny pearly bumps were actually benign
tumors. Most kids’ immune system are able to fight
the virus, but some can’t. They were given some cream to apply
on her face and told to come back after a month. |
However,
instead of getting better, the dots spread to other parts
of Joy’s face. Clusters of
bumps started to form around her eyes, on her neck, forehead and
even arms and legs. The family continued to return to National Skin
Center month after month, and the doctor’s assessment was
the same each time: “Keep using the cream and the child will
build up her own immune system and may recover within 6 months,
or it may take up to 2 years.”
Sam’s sense of helplessness was understandable. “At
the rate the bumps were growing, I really could not bear
to imagine how Joy would look like in a year’s time,”
he said.
|
Desperate, they sought help from various practitioners of traditional
Chinese medicine, recommended by family and friends, the
sinseh said they had never seen anything like this.
All this while, Sam and Suzanna prayed with Joy every night at
bedtime, asking God to heal her.
“I was confident that God would heal Joy, but, at the same
time, I was worried about the worsening condition,” confessed
Sam.
Eight months after Joy developed this skin condition, the family
attended Trinity’s “I Need a Miracle!” Power Weekend.
They went to Trinity twice over that weekend to ask God
for healing. Sam recalls that “on our second visit,
Rev Jimmy Mutebi, the lively African preacher, said that as Christians,
we are all empowered to heal and we must claim God’s awesome
power. He asked those who need healing to place their hands over
those areas that needed God’s healing. Suzanna and
I cupped our hands over Joy’s face and we prayed.”
|
|
That
weekend was indeed a miracle weekend for the family. Sam testifies,
“For 8 months, those
dots on Joy’s face just kept growing. Yet days after
the Power Weekend, those bumps started to turn
reddish, burst and new skin formed over it. Within two
weeks, the dots on Joy’s face disappeared. Now, Joy’s
face is as smooth as her baby sister’s skin!”
He says, “We want to proclaim that God is faithful and true.
We have learnt to trust in Him and
will continue to look to Him for guidance, comfort and wisdom. All
Glory to God!” |

A testimony by Leslie Lam
When Leslie’s mother was diagnosed with a tumour in her intestine,
the doctor said that she would require an immediate operation. Shaken
by the news, Leslie rallied everyone to pray for a miracle.
|

|
An
Immediate Operation
Leslie’s mother suffered from severe vomiting and abdominal
pain, and was rushed to the hospital. After an X-ray and CT scan,
the doctor discovered she had a 7 cm tumour in her intestine. The
doctor wanted to operate on her immediately in order to clear the
blockage.
“I felt I was in a daze. My family was shaken by
the news. All of us could not bear to see her go through an operation
at the age of 72. We were concerned that at her age, a
major operation like this would greatly affect her mobility and
quality of life,” said Leslie. |
Leslie
informed Trinity Christian Centre about his mother’s situation
and got everyone to pray.
“The doctor pressed us to make a decision, but we sought
the Lord and decided to get a second opinion." |
A Second Opinion
Leslie’s mother was transferred to another hospital. The
senior surgeon assigned to her assured the family that he would
do his best.
The surgeon confirmed the diagnosis. There seemed to be
no alternative but to go through the complex operation.
“We made arrangements for the operation and prayed for a
miracle.”
“My mum felt very comforted that many pastors, Christian
friends and relatives were praying for her.”
|
A
Surprise Discovery
The day before the operation, the surgeon did a scope on Leslie’s
mother. To his surprise, the tumour could not be found. Leslie’s
family members were overjoyed and knew God had intervened. |
|
The
surgeon was astonished. But he said that he could not be sure that
the tumour was really gone. He wanted to do another CT scan, just
to be sure.
In the meantime, Leslie’s mum was discharged as she could
eat and drink without any discomfort and pain. The family endured
a 2-week waiting period pending the outcome of the scan. |
It’s
A Miracle!
The final scan showed that the tumour, which was confirmed
by not one but two doctors, had
disappeared! There was no longer any tumour present.
“It was really a display of God’s power. When my nephew
witnessed this miracle, he accepted Christ. God has truly shown
Himself to be our Great Physician and Healer!”
Leslie is thankful for God’s intervention in the situation.
“When such a crisis hits us, we can miss the miracle of God
out of fear and panic. But through this incident, I realised that
through united prayer, we can see the impossible take place.” |
|
The
Miracle Continues
Astounded by the dramatic turnaround,
Leslie’s nephew Martin gave his life to Christ.
Martin, who was serving his national service
then, said, “Before this incident, Jesus was just another
god to me. But when this happened, I realised that Jesus was
real!” Martin felt so
convicted that he went with his mum to Trinity Christian Centre
that very weekend, where he accepted Christ.
Now a Trinitarian, he attends service
regularly and is part of a carecell. In fact, he is planning
to get baptised later this year.
Praise God! |

A testimony by Michael Lee
It started with an unexplained bout of severe diahorrea.
No medication seemed to be able to stop the diahorrea.
Michael
says, “For four days, I was hospitalized while the doctors
tried to find out what was wrong. I had to endure many tests. Finally,Finally,
after many tests, the doctors discovered that I had gas
bubbles in my colon and a fatty liver.”
“The doctors said there was no cure for my condition.
All they could do was to monitor my condition and see if any complications
developed.”
|
Troubling
news
It was troubling news because Michael’s
family had a history of colon cancer. Naturally,
Michael and his wife Jeslyn were worried. It was especially
tough for Jeslyn, who had to juggle his hospital stay and
take care of their 2 very young kids at the same time.
“During this trying time, my pastors and friends from
Trinity Christian Centre visited me and prayed for me. I felt
very assured that my life was in God’s hands.”
|
But
it did not cross Michael’s mind that God would heal
him. “Though I had a sense of peace, I didn’t think
God was really going to heal me. Somehow I thought I had to
be ‘special enough’ to receive such healing,” he
says. He was in for a surprise. |
Nowhere
to be found!
A few weeks later, Michael went for further rounds
of tests at the hospital.
“Imagine my shock when the doctor said that the pocket of
gas in the colon wall was nowhere to be found!
The doctor himself was astonished by the sudden disappearance of
the gas bubbles. He also found that my liver had reverted
to normal.”
 |
Stunned
by the test results, the doctor wanted Michael to do through
a colon scope. The scope confirmed that Michael had been healed!
Now having survived the episode, Michael says, “I have
always been in awe of God’s miracle healing. I just never
expected Him to heal ME! I am so amazed and thankful to be
given
a new lease of life.”

A testimony by Renee Chong
An
alarming discovery
When administrative assistant Renee Chong discovered
two tumours
in her body, she was naturally worried.
The
doctor said one tumour was the size of a 20-cent coin, and
another, a 5-cent coin.
“The
doctor said that if the tumours continued to grow, he would
have to remove them surgically,” Renee recalls. |
|
The
tumours had doubled in size
Six
months later, when she went for her second ultrasound, the tumours
had doubled in size. Renee was alarmed.
A third
ultrasound showed that both tumours had continued to increase
in size.
“I
became increasingly worried but I continued to pray and trust in
the Lord. My carecell members from Trinity Christian Centre prayed
alongside me. We pleaded with God that the tumours would shrink
and dissolve.”
At the
eleventh hour
Renee heaved a huge sigh of relief on the fourth
ultrasound. The two tumours had miraculously disappeared!
“The doctor was amazed that there was no trace of
the tumours on the ultrasound! There
was no other explanation for the sudden disappearance ---
I knew God had healed me. I really thank God for this miracle!”

A testimony by Boon Jia Hao
My
right shoulder was in pain as I had dislocated it.
I had difficulty raising my arm.
I went for the Power Weekend at Trinity

A testimony by Grace Hee
I had a persistent cough for
one month. All in all, i took two courses of antibiotics,
different types of cough syrups, cold medicine and steroids
as well.
One morning, I vomited twice, had body aches and
was coughing badly. I struggled through my day in
the office. That evening, during a carecell meeting, my friends
from Trinity Christian Centre prayed for me.
That night, I slept well without coughing. When I woke up
the next day, I realised that my cough
was completely healed. It had to be God! My colleagues
who know how ill I was the day before, were amazed to see
me back at work. All Glory to God! |

A testimony by Rachel Lee On 21 Dec 2004 I was
diagnosed of 4th stage nose cancer and just like any other normal
person, I was very apprehensive of what was going to happen to
me. However,
I didn’t ask God, Why? My husband
also didn't ask God, “Why? Instead, we told God, “Wow…this
is a new journey, Lord. Please give us strength to go through
this.”
Then, Romans 8:28 came to my mind: “All things work together
for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to
his purpose.” In other words, despite this illness, God has
a plan and a purpose in this situation.
Jeremiah 29:11 also came to my mind: “I have a plan for you,“
says the Lord, “a plan not to harm you but a plan to prosper
you, to give you a hope and a future.”
When all these promises came to my mind, my faith in God increased.
I have been a Christian for many years and have encountered God
through many blessings and miracles in my life. I have experienced
financial provision, physical healing, healing of relationship,
and transformation of my own life. Through all these encounters,
I have developed my confidence and trust in God. God promised that
he will be with me wherever I go and in whatever situation I may
encounter. He promised that he will never leave me nor forsake me.
I believe in all my heart that my God is Almighty and He is a loving
Father. therefore, I’m not so fearful even though the doctor
told me that my survival rate is not as good as those who are 1st
and 2nd stage.
Philippians 4:6-7 tells me that: “Be anxious for nothing,
but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which
surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus;” That was what my family and I did and we committed
the situation to God. We knew He is in control.
From Jan to May 2005, I went through thirteen chemo treatments
and seven weeks of radiotherapy. Due to the effects of the chemo
drugs, I lost quite a bit of hair, therefore, I started wearing
a wig by end of January till mid Nov. The chemo wasn’t so
bad but the radiotherapy was the worst experience in my life. On
the 4th week of the radiotherapy, the side effects kicked in very
badly. My throat and ears were in great pain, I couldn’t eat,
couldn’t drink and couldn’t talk. I didn’t have
proper sleep due to the thick saliva developed in my mouth and lots
of phlegm in my throat. During one of the routine check-ups, I already
lost my voice, so I cried and scribbled a note to my oncologist:
“Even if you give me all the money in the world I won’t
want to go through this again.” That’s how bad it was.
Eventually, I was on feeding tube for five solid weeks. During that
period my diet was only milk – at least six cups per day.
My weight had fallen from 49kg to 43kg.
After the treatment in May, it took me another one to two months
to recuperate. Amazingly I got my energy back very fast.
Yes, there were many side-effects from the treatment, but God’s
grace was upon me. The MRI I did in June showed that the
tumor has disappeared. All glory to God. Then the last
MRI done on 30Nov 2005 showed that my condition was okay and stable.
It was an early Christmas gift from God. Praise the Lord for His
amazing grace.
God did another miracle last November. Due to the radiotherapy,
there was air trapped in my right ear and caused lost of hearing
of 75% for a month. During the November Power Weekend, Pastor Gerald
was preaching and he called out those who had hearing problem and
I went out for prayer. The healing was not immediate but
it was a few days later, my right ear was fully unblocked.
I was really amazed at God’s healing power.
Throughout my treatment, I thank God for my family’s support.
My husband has been with me most of the time, and my two sons helped
out in the house chores. During those tough times, God has shown
me that there are many people in my life who really love and care
for me. God has also shown His love for me through the brothers
and sisters-in-Christ and pastors who have been constantly praying
for me. During my treatment when I was so weak, carecell members
cooked food for my family. Some friends from another carecell took
turns to send me to the hospital for treatment. I told them I can
take a taxi but they insisted to help. What can I say? The thoughts
of all these care acts really warm my heart. In 1 John 4:21, Jesus
has given us this command “Whoever loves God must also love
his brother.”
Trinity has been teaching us about covenantal relationship and
that’s what I have been experiencing during my tough time.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all pastors, brothers and
sisters-in-Christ for keeping me and my family in prayer during
that tough period. All glory to God! |

A testimony by Allen Loh It was a Wednesday night.
I could not sleep the whole night. My eyes are throbbing with pain.
I could not open my eyes at all. When I did manage to open them
a few seconds, I was tearing badly.
When I saw the doctor, he said I have herpes simplex multiple infections,
which essentially are cold sores in my eyes, and if not treated,
it will eat into my eyes and I may go blind. Apparently the infection
was there for a while but something triggered it to be full blown.
Two weeks ago, my infections were triggered and the tears were flowing
out continuously.
The eye surgeon I saw said it is the worst of its kind that he
had ever seen. He took an eye culture, expecting the infection to
grow worse for the next 3 to 5 days before it stabilized for a couple
of days. He expected the eye to feel like a rock in my head that
night.
Many of my carecell members prayed for me. On Friday, when
I saw the eye surgeon again, he was surprised of the immediate improvement.
I told him I only felt an irritation in the eyes the night
before. He was pleasantly surprised. Thereafter, I visited the eye
surgeon everyday as he wanted to tackle the infection assiduously.
He diagnosed that the viral infection was completely gone from both
eyes.
Indeed, it is God who answered the prayer of His saints. He healed
me miraculously and expediently. I was able to recover so fast with
minimal discomfort. No downturn for the worse. No need for stabilizing.
Straight road to recovery! Most of all, I am delivered from my fear
of blindness!
Praise the Lord for his healing powers and thank you for your prayers. |

A testimony by Hendra Oh One day, I was out
for dinner with my carecell leader. Suddenly, I felt an acute
stomach
pain that I had never felt before. I tried to bear with the pain,
but as the pain was unbearable, I just could not. My leader took
out the Bible and lead me through a prayer at the bus stop, using
Mark 16:17 and 18, where it is written: “And these signs
will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive
out demons;
they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with they
hands; when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt they;
and
they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.
At the name of Jesus, in that instant, the pain was gone.
Though this encounter, I learned that there is a healing by prayer.
In the past I used to question whether there is really an
"instant" healing by prayer, but now I can share with
you that the answer is "YES". I thank God for
the healing and the unforgettable experience. Having said that,
I would still encourage all of you to seek a doctor whenever you
are sick and at the same time pray for healing because God works
through people too. |

A testimony by
Rachel Lin My husband Timothy and I had been trying for
a baby since early 2003 but it was a fruitless situation for a year.
In Nov 2003, I went for an operation to remove a 16cm cyst in my
ovary which hindered conception.
In May 2004, I discovered I was pregnant but unfortunately, the
cyst grew back. The gynae told us the pregnancy would cause the
cyst to shrink but unfortunately, it ended up in a miscarriage a
few days later.
Timothy and I prayed and believed God for the cyst to disappear.
Then in Aug 2005, I went back for another check-up. The cyst grew
bigger to 3cm in size (anything bigger than 2.5cm meant I had to
go for another operation).
The doctor did not recommend me to go for an operation immediately
because he felt that my last operation was too recent. He
said that if I do not get pregnant by Oct, then I would need to
go for an operation. He also offered us the option to go
for IUI (artificial insemination) to increase the chance of conception.
He gave us one day to pray through and give him an answer.
Both of us decided not to go for artificial insemination but to
trust God for a miracle. We decided to stand by the promises of
God....because the Bible says that without faith it is impossible
to please God (Hebrews 11:6). We claimed His promises in the same
verse that He would reward us when we seek Him.
However, the journey of faith was not easy. August passed by....and
there was no news. What was worse was that the friends around me
were getting pregnant one by one. I didn't feel good about it because
I felt that God had forgotten me.. I often had to come before God
to ask Him to help me with my unbelief during those times. I
would cry out to God to intervene in my situation --- not only to
give us a child but to heal me from the cyst condition as well.
I thanked God for Timothy because those were the times he came alongside
to encourage me in the promises of God.
During Trinity’s vision rally in September, during the altar
call, the speaker said, "God has not forgotten you.... He remembers
you." These words came like a voice from heaven, I knew very
clearly that it is God's way of assuring me that He had not forgotten
me. God really touched me in a very special way that night and my
faith was renewed.
After that night, Tim and I talked about this matter, knowing that
we were left with only one month. We prayed together fervently,
believing that God would intervene. One week after the rally, Tim
shared with me that during his prayer time, God spoke to him that
He would give us a child. He said he heard it very clearly from
God and the voice kept coming to Him in a very assuring way.
A day before my check-up in October, I discovered I was
pregnant! We thank God how He heard our cry and answered
our prayers for a child and granted us the desires of our hearts.
Surely His word will not return to Him empty but He will accomplish
what He has purposed. Both of us have learnt to deepen our faith
in God through this episode, that God is able to do the impossible.
We have named our girl Enqi which means amazing grace because God
has shown us His amazing grace through this pregnancy. Glory be
to God! |

A testimony
by Angela Liew I would like to thank God for His love
and goodness showered upon me. Two and half years ago, I started
to develop rashes very often and the rashes would not subside. I
thought this was minor and was due to some skin sensitivity.
I went to see the doctor and requested for some medication for
the rashes. However, after I finished the medicine, the rashes would
go off, but will come back in a day or 2. Therefore, I had to go
back to the doctor to request for medication again. This continued
for a few months and I got tired of seeing the doctor, and asked
the doctor what was the cause of the rashes. I asked him to refer
me to the skin centre. The doctor told me that the rashes
was due to my blood disorder, and even if I were to see a skin specialist,
there would not be any cure for me.
The doctor's reply really discouraged me, I was very upset by the
reply and I checked with one of my course mate in NTU, who suffered
the same rashes problem as me. He too, told me the only way is to
continue the medication for life. Thus I continued the medication
every alternate day when the rashes start developing.
This went on until August this year, during the Trinity’s
Power weekend, when Rev. Raymond Mooi came to Trinity to be the
speaker for that weekend. At the end of the service, he invited
those that need healing to stand up and he would pray for God's
healing to be released. Knowing that I do not want to depend on
medication anymore, I stood up and received the healing. Since
then, I stopped my medication and thank God, the rashes did not
come back --- even till now. God has fully healed me! What
the doctor think is impossible has been made possible by God.
For all that God has done for me in my life, I really want to give
God the honour and glory. Praise God for His love and righteousness. |
